SAFE NIGHT

Gang Abatement Program (GAP)

The Gang Abatement Project (GAP) was originally a state supported program operated by JCORP in the 57th Representative District of Missouri, but since July 2006 (GAP) has been supported by Weed & Seed and designed to do the following:

1. Decrease gang activity
2. Improve community perceptions of safety
3. Motivate, educate, and employ gang affiliates

To date the (GAP) program has served well over 300 youth. JCORP is always seeking additional funding to expand the program to reach more youth around the inner-cities. To better serve the youth, JCORP is expanding it’s collaboration with other service providers such as the family courts, and community programs.

The Gang Abatement Project is an Anti-Violence Project working to reduce gang related activity in the Hamilton Heights/West End Neighbor hoods and around the city by modifying the behaviors and attitudes of at-risk youth.
Currently JCORP is addressing the needs of youth, males and females, ages 13-18 with hope of expanding its outreach to serve youth 13-24. We are now turning our attention to reach Middle Schools Juvenile detention and Family Courts. Although the targeted areas have been predominately African-American the GAP program will service all nationalities and races. GAP will target primarily low-income, at-risk youth. Our recruitment involves:

1. Parent and Community Outreach
2. Court Referrals
3. Direct Contact in High Level Gang Activity Areas
4. Schools
5. Boys and Girls Club
6. YMCA
